Fuel Efficiency Calculator

A good fuel efficiency calculator helps you make sense of everyday driving costs without digging through conversion tables or trying to remember different regional standards. Whether you measure consumption in miles per gallon, kilometres per litre or litres per 100 km, this tool gives you a clear picture of how efficiently your vehicle is running.

Built for UK and International Drivers

Drivers don’t all use the same units, and that’s where confusion often starts. Some people track trips in miles and litres, others in kilometres and gallons. This calculator handles those combinations properly, including the difference between UK and US gallons, so your results stay accurate and easy to compare.

See Efficiency and Cost in One Place

Beyond fuel economy, the tool can also estimate trip fuel spend when you enter a price. That makes it useful for budgeting, comparing vehicles, checking running costs after a long journey, or keeping an eye on changing fuel prices. If you want a quick MPG calculator for day-to-day use or a simple way to convert fuel consumption into international formats, this page keeps everything straightforward, fast and practical.

FAQs

What fuel economy figures will this calculator show?

The tool returns a standard set of fuel economy results so you can compare figures easily across regions. Depending on your input, it calculates MPG (UK), MPG (US), kilometres per litre, and litres per 100 kilometres. That means if you enter miles and litres, or kilometres and gallons, you’ll still get a consistent set of comparable results without having to do any manual conversion.

What’s the difference between UK MPG and US MPG?

UK and US gallons are not the same size, so MPG values are different too. One UK gallon equals 4.54609 litres, while one US gallon equals 3.785411784 litres. Because the UK gallon is larger, a vehicle’s MPG (UK) figure will usually look higher than its MPG (US) figure for the same real-world fuel use. This calculator handles that difference automatically, so you don’t have to worry about using the wrong standard.

Can I use this to work out fuel cost for a trip?

Yes. If you enter a fuel price, the calculator estimates the total fuel cost for the journey as well as the cost per mile and cost per kilometre. You can use a price per litre, UK gallon or US gallon depending on the fuel unit you select, and you can add your preferred currency symbol for display. The symbol is only visual, so it won’t affect the maths.
